Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering professions. The engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyse manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more. The latest research areas include automation and robotics, finite element analysis, computer aided design, nanotechnology, Micro electro-mechanical systems, biomechanics to name a few. The versatility and the broadness of this engineering have created a huge demand for mechanical engineers in the above mentioned areas. A new breed of mechanical engineers is required which is competent to face the challenges of the 21st century. These competent mechanical engineers having interest in latest research areas along with all the necessary tools would help in making this world a better place to live. This could only be possible if the good institutes undertake the courses in mechanical engineering with a revised curriculum that suits the requirements of the industry and the research institutes in the country.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University is to provide students with a sound mechanical engineering education, enhance the understanding and application of mechanical engineering principles, for techno-economic development of the country, and improve the quality of life of our citizens through teaching, research, and outreach programs. The mission is further to provide an environment where students have extensive avenues to excel, improve technical exposure and develop personality and then get placed in PSUs, MNCs and reputed companies with good future so that students have global presence, in various roles and responsibilities. With excellent teaching and learning environment it provides a platform to instill high motivation, moral values and leadership in its students.

1 Workshop

Department organized a one day workshop on "Acquaintance with ANSYS software" organized for the scholars of 2nd and 3rdyear students of Mechanical Engineering. Numerous specialists from anillustrious design center delivered through the assorted sessions. Students were at home with the state of art designing and testing skills. Workshop received an enormous response from the student fraternity and was a palmy event.

2 Industrial Tour

An industrial tour to Diesel Modernization Works (DMW) was organized for the scholars of 2nd year, Mechanical Engineering on October 17, 2014. Students were acquainted with the small to large scale machines of various kinds including computer controlled and related state of art machines. It was an enriched experience and students were overwhelmed with the visit.

3 Industrial Tour

First year students of Mechanical Engineering from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib visited a renowned MNC, “Federal Mogul Goetze India Ltd., under the guidance of Er. B .N. Mehra  (Workshop Supdt.) to have  exposure to latest technology, machines and instruments for making auto components. Students took keen interest in every field and asked number  of questions regarding operations and functions of various machines and components. Officers from different departments answered each query raised by the students and satisfied them in all respect. This Industrial exposure will be very helpful for overall development of students. The officers of company were very nice, helpful and co-operative with University Staff & students.
