The Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology was established in the year 2013. The main purpose of establishing this department was to upgrade the status of Physical Education by producing quality teachers and leaders through graduate and post graduate courses. Our superlative amenities and enviable educational links attract diverse students and we offer extensive options for graduate, post graduate and doctoral study. Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology is headed by Prof. (Dr.) Kanwaljeet Singh, a renowned Physical Educationist in the country along with young faculty of Physical Education and coaches. Their long association with Physical Education is going to be an epitome of knowledge and an excellent training opportunity for students to be admitted in the department.

The Master’s and Bachelor's of Physical Education are meant for candidates who aspire for pursuing graduate and post graduate programmes in Physical Education. The duration of Bachelor’s of Physical Education (B.P.ED) course was initially three years. To bring it at par with other professional degree courses and to match the international standards, the duration of the course was extended to four years and the course was renamed as Bachelor’s of Physical Education (B.P.ED). The students graduating from this course can take up teaching jobs in secondary and senior secondary schools as well as colleges of Physical Education and in the department of Physical Education in University. They can also explore job opportunities in print media as sports journalists, health and fitness trainers in corporate houses and also as personal trainers to those who are fitness conscious.

Vision: Our vision is “to inspire the human spirit through meaningful achievements in physical activity, sport and leisure that impact the health and quality of life at all levels in society.”The core task and mission of the faculty of the department is to provide the state of affairs for scientific research and teaching activities, transfer of scientific and professional knowledge and skills that allow staff and students’ involvement in scientific research and work in practice.

(V) Bachelor's Degree with participation in International competitions or secured 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in National/Inter-University competition in sports and games as recognized by respective federations AIU/IOA/SGFI/Govt. of India.

(VI) Graduation with 45% marks and at least three years of teaching experience (for deputed in- service candidates i.e. trained Physical Education teacher/coaches).

The faculty of the department is doing a marvelous job in the field of research methodology.  Prof. (Dr.) Kanwaljeet Singh, had done a remarkable work in the area of research. A plenty of International or national research journal in india and abroad is witnesing the uphill struggle of Prof. (Dr.)  Kanwaljeet Singh.  His more than 100 publications are a source of knowledge for teachers as well as students.  He has presented papers at national and international conferences/workshops in countries like - England, South Korea, Spain and Australia.

As walking on the footprints of the head, the Incharge of the department Asst.Prof. Sukhbir Singh and other faculty members of the department is also putting a much effort to uplift the standard of the Research in the field of Physical Education. The Department of Physical Education & Sports Technology has established well equipped Athletics track, Basketball court, Volleyball court, Hockey, Football, Cricket ground in the university campus. The well-equipped gym is also made for the students. Well-equipped Physiotherapy lab is established for rehabilitation of players and students. More than 300 books related with Physical Education and Sports are available in university library along with online journals.

4 Hockey Academy

Hockey Academy for girls is running at grass root level under the agies of Department of Physical Education from April 2014. Total 30 players have been selected in the academy. S. Baldev Singh (Dronacharya Awardee), Mr. Amarjit Singh and S. Gurteg Singh was appointed as chief coach /assistant hockey coach to provide the training to the players.

To provide best training facilities for the players, the Department has developed well equipped multi-gym and standardrized  hockey ground. Players of the academy are also facilitated with extra nutritional diet, free education and free residence.

The resultant of these facilities have been shown in major hockey tournaments, as the hockey team got various achievements in different tournaments of the year 2014:
1. Secured runners-up position in Baba Farid Hockey Gold Cup held in Faridkot (Punjab) on 21/9/14 to 23/9/14.
2. Winner of invitation tournament held in Karnataka on 28/9/14 to 2/10/14.
3. Winner of Nehru Cup held at New Delhi on 8/10/14 to 18/10/14.   

4. Three girls of the academy (Navpreet kaur, Manpreet Kaur and Neetu) have been selected for National camp.
5. One player of the academy i.e Navpreet Kaur represented Indian hocky team for New Zealand tour.

1 DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
  • Celebration of National Sports Day : On the occasion of National Sports Day, the Department of Physical Education & Sports Technology organized a cross country Competition for boys, girls and teaching and non-teaching staff. 200 students have been successfully participated in the event. Winners were awarded by the honourable chief guest (Dr. Roopa Saini).
  • Intramural Football Competition : The Department organized an Inter departmental Football Championship in September, 2014. Four teams of different houses participated in the championship. Baba Zoravar Singh house secured 1st position, Baba Jujhar Singh house secured 2nd, Baba Fateh Singh house secured 3rd and Baba Ajit Singh house secured 4th position respectively.
  • Inter-Department Kabaddi Championship : An Interdepartmental Kabaddi Championship was Organized On 06/10/14 to 07/10/14. Four teams from different departments- Bio Technology, Nano Technology, Physical Education & Sports Technology and CSE took part in the Championship with true spirit.The final match was played on 07/10/14 between Dept. of Physical Education and Dept. of Nano Technology and it was won by Physical Education Department.
  • Interdepartmental Cross-country Competition: Interdepartmental cross-country Championship was organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology On 21/10/14. Four teams from each of the houses of the Department of Physical Education participated in the Championship with true spirit. Baba Zoravar Singh house secured 1st position.
  • Rashtriya Ekta Divas : The Department of Physical Education organized a cross country race (Run For Unity) on 31/10/14 at 7:00am in the university athletic track. More than 100 students participated in the above said event. Further the students and faculty members of Department of Physical Education assembled in the class room no. 502.  On this occasion the Rashtriya Ekta Divas pledge taken by the students and faculty members.
  • 58th Punjab Senior State Volleyball Championship: Department of Physical Education has been organized 58th Senior State Volleyball Championship  WITH THE collaboration of district volleyball association from 27/11/14 to 29/11/14. Total 22 teams of men and 18 teams of women participated in the championship. Punjab Police & team of district Sangrur won the championship in men and women category.
2 ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
  • Lecture on Physical Education:  The Department of Physical Education & Sports Technology took an initiative to organise extension Lecture in order to enhance knowledge, practical approach, & conceptualization of students in the field of Physical Education. Lectures were delivered on 10/4/14 and 11/4/14. On the first day, Prof. Dr. N.S Mann discussed Health, fitness & wellness through Physical Education & Sports. He explained the real mean of quality life & contribution of Physical Education & Sports to achieve it. On the Second day the lecture was delivered by Dr. Rachpal Singh Brar and he explained the real meaning of quality life and contribution of Physical Education & sports to achieve it.
  • Lecture on a fascinating issue “Research Process and Research Methodology in Physical Education and Sports" was delivered by Dr. Baljinder Singh Bal. A healthy discussion was taken place among the students of bachelors, masters, research scholars and the faculty members.
  • National Workshop on Anthropometry : Physical Education & Sports Technology Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a one day National Workshop on Anthropometry: its utility in Research, Physical Education and Sports on 18.02.2014. The workshop was conducted by Professor Dr. S P Singh from Punjabi University, Patiala. Prof. Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh successfully organized the workshop. Department incharge Mr. Sukhbir Singh extended his gratitude and thanks to all the dignitaries and delegates.

2 Winner of Nehru Hockey Tournament

The women team of hockey academy of our University won prestigious National level tournament (Nehru cup 2014). One player of the team (Navneet Kaur) has selected for International tour for Newzeland with Indian hockey team and three more players are selected for National camp. The same team also secured 2nd position in Baba Farid Gold cup hockey tournament.
