SGGSWU Departments Department of Punjabi


The department of Punjabi in Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University has been established to develop Punjabi language, literature and culture, and is working dedicatedly for these objectives. With a visionary initiative taken by the Vice-chancellor Dr.Gurmohan Singh Walia Punjabi has been made a compulsory subject in one semester of every three, four and five year degree programs. This will greatly help in developing the language efficiency of the students. They will also be encouraged to write and speak about their specific subjects in their mother-tongue.This will not only enhance their comprehension of the subject but will also enrich the sense of belonging to the people and the heritage of their land. They will be able to communicate in the scientific and creative fields on radio, television and in the newspapers. This will enrich not only the communication skills and the personalities ofthe students, but also help in developing and enriching Punjabi language, literature and culture. There are two higher degree programs M.A. (Punjabi) and Ph. D. (Punjabi) under the department. Ten research scholars are enrolled for Ph.D. (Punjabi) in the department. We hope that department of Punjabi will produce good scholars and bright students.

(The candidate must have passed entrance test organized by the University. NET qualified candidates are exempted from entrance test.)

Duration: 2 Years

Elligibility: Bachelor's degree in any stream with 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized University. The candidates who have studied Punjabi as elective subject will be preferred.

Department of Punjabi organized a seminar in the memory of the Kalam of Allah Yar Khan Yogi. The topic of Seminar was 'Shahadat da Sikh Sankalp'. 2 Foundation Day Celebration

Celebration of foundation day of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University on September 1st.

3 Birth Anniversary of Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha

Birth anniversary of great Sikh scholar and Punjabi lexicographer Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha was celebrated on August 25th, 2014. Dr.Joga Singh, Professor of Linguistics, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered a lecture on the occassion.

4 Bhai Veer SIngh's Birthday

Bhai Veer Singh's birthday announced as the Mother-tongue Punjabi day,  wasceleberated in the department. Dr Jaswinder Singh, former Dean Academic Affairs, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered a lecture on the life and contribution of Bhai Veer Singh to Punjabi language

The Department of Punjabi has organized six extension lectures from scholars of various Universities.
