SGGSWU Departments Departmentt of Religious and Civilizational Studies

The establishment of Department of Religious & Civilizational Studies at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University was a unique and significant venture in the history of higher education in India as well as abroad. The main objectives are to provide facilities for advanced research, understanding of world religions, systematic and scientific study through academic channels such as inter-religious dialogues, seminars, extension lectures and publication of books etc.

Department will also focus on study of the World's Religions, Civilizations, Eastern & Western Speculative Thought, and Globalization as an ideology. The Department will focus on the study of Sikh religion as an academic discipline and the scriptures from different perspectives to produce the source material for the scholars as well as for students working in the field of Sikh Studies. The department has produced a lot of source material through research and seminars. The Department also focuses on research  along with following research centres:

Guru Arjun Dev Centre For Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies
The objective for setting up of this centre is to carry out authentic research in the various aspects of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, to spread its message universally. It is relevant to mention here that the whole universe is in dire need of the message of niversal brotherhood through the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Only such teachings can guide the world on the path of Grehasth-Udaas instead of extreme ways of materialism and renunciation. For this purpose we need to expand this message to the people who belong to different cultures, languages and life styles via its adequate presentation in their language as well as idiom.

Bhai Gurdas Centre For Sikh Studies
The objective for setting up of this centre is to carry out research in Sikh heritage, culture, philosophy, tradition, Martyrs, Sikh way of life and all related aspects of Sikh living and thinking. Sikh panth has made glorious achievements, but these have yet to be explored in front of the world in a right context. Further, Guru Sahib has bestowed Sikh Panth with revolutionary models which are exceptionally distinguished from the existing models in the areas of politics, economics as well as cultural. But this is yet to be explored within the academic disciplines.

Guru Nanak Dev Centre For Gurmat Sangeet
The objective for setting up of this centre is to carry out research in various aspects of Sikh Music and to prepare Encyclopedia of Sikh Music. Gurmat Sangeet (Sikh Music) plays very significant role in spreading the pious message of Gurbani. The aim of research in Sikh Music is to explore the distinct features of Gurmat Sangeet in comparison to Indian classical music. Moreover, we wish to explore its potential to lead the human soul to the higher dimensions of life.
