The Materials Science Research Lab at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib is at the forefront of research and development in the field of materials science. This lab is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technology related science. This lab is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technology related to various materials, with a significant focus on glass synthesis through the melt quenching technique. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern instrumentation and staffed by a team of qualified researchers and academicians. The lab’s activities contribute to both the academic growth of students and the broader field of materials science.

Aims and Objectives

To develop and refine the melt quenching technique for glass synthesis, improving the quality and properties of the resulting materials.

To provide comprehensive training and research opportunities for students, preparing them for careers in academia, industry and research institutions.

To synthesize and characterize new types of glass with enhanced properties for various applications including optical, mechanical, structural and electronic use.

To promote collaboration across various scientific disciplines.

Equipment Available

High temperature (1450ºC) muffle furnace used for melting the precursor material

Mortar and pestle used for grinding the material

Weighing machine used for measure the weight of the sample

High temperature muffle furnace (800° C) used for annealing the glass to escape it from thermal stress

High quality polarizing machine used for polish the glass for its further characterization

Various type of crucibles used such as – silica crucible and alumina crucible
