Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Amritsar, Punjab (India), an apex democratically elected body of Sikhs residing all over the world was established under a special Act of Parliament in 1925. Besides managing the Sikh Gurdwaras (i.e Holy Sikh Shrines) and religious affairs of this most dynamic, vibrant and enterprising community, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) also looks after its cultural and historical monuments. At the same time, it runs and supports a number of Educational Institutions; Houses for the physically and mentally challenged people and Welfare Cradles for Orphans.
In order to provide value-based education, S.G.P.C. has established a large number of institutions. At present, the SGPC is running about 31 colleges and 50 schools which include two Medical Colleges; one Dental College; one Nursing college; four Colleges providing Technical Engineering Courses; and a number of other Postgraduate and Undergraduate Colleges providing specialized Education in Management, Computer Sciences, Life Sciences including Bio-Informatics and Microbiology, etc. and commerce, Humanities and Pure Sciences. S.G.P.C. has also set up a full-fledged multi-disciplinary University named after “Guru Granth Sahib” at the historic town of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab.
Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Guru Nanak Institute of Research and Development and Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies situated at Matunga, Mumbai – 400 019, are the few other educational institutions established and run by the S.G.P.C. outside the state of Punjab.
All the Institutions of S.G.P.C. strive for excellence, producing not only successful professionals, managers and entrepreneurs; but also responsible Human Beings who care for core human values and ethics. It is worth mentioning that the major contribution of S.G.P.C lies in providing School and College Education accessible to common and needy people in remote and rural areas of Punjab and other states of India.
