Safe and effective management of biomedical waste is not only a legal necessity but also a social responsibility. At the University, biomedical waste (BMW) is meticulously collected, transported, treated, and disposed of on a regular basis by an external agency authorized by the Punjab Pollution Control Board. This ensures that all BMW handling complies with regulatory standards, minimises environmental impact, and protects public health. The University collaborates closely with the authorized agency to ensure that all procedures are followed correctly, promoting a safe and healthy campus environment.
The University follows prescribed protocols for disposing of hazardous liquid and solid waste to protect the environment. Chemical waste from biological samples, infected secretions, and laboratory liquids are placed in non-chlorinated yellow plastic bags and autoclaved. Wastewater is treated in a Sewage Treatment Plant and reused for watering plants and lawns. Water from RO systems is stored and used in flush tanks of washrooms.
