Sociology is one of fastest growing disciplines in institutions of higher learning all over the world. Sociology has emerged as a trans-disciplinary subject with deep linkages with philosophy, psychology, history, political science and literature. Given the complex nature of society today, researchers from sociology stream can not only help in understanding society in all its complexity but also help in laying foundations of a better society by focusing upon the changes needed in the current social structure and the problems therein. Students of Sociology can find jobs in industry, teaching and can pursue advanced research in different fields. Sociology being a favoured optional subject for Indian Civil Services, offers ample scope for Civil Services aspirants.
